1. Why this matters to us
We carry children, young people and adults to school, college, appointments and activities. Road transport is a major source of carbon emissions and local air pollution, and the passengers we serve are among those most affected by poor air quality. Reducing our emissions is part of providing a responsible service to passengers, families and the councils and organisations that commission us.
2. Scope of this commitment
This commitment covers the operations of Kingswell Transport Ltd (company number 16676364). We will account for emissions using the Greenhouse Gas Protocol and government conversion factors for company reporting, across:
| Scope | What it includes for us |
|---|---|
| Scope 1 | Fuel used by vehicles we own or operate. |
| Scope 2 | Electricity we purchase, including for any vehicle charging and premises. |
| Scope 3 | Relevant indirect emissions, including business travel, employee commuting, waste and upstream transport, as required for public-sector carbon reduction reporting. |
3. Baseline and reporting
Kingswell Transport is a new business. We will record our emissions from the start of operations and publish a baseline after our first full 12 months of trading. After that we will publish our emissions every year on this page and set interim reduction targets measured against the baseline.
Where a contract or framework asks for it, we will provide a Carbon Reduction Plan in the format the commissioning organisation requires.
4. How we will reduce emissions
Journey planning
- Plan efficient routes and combine journeys where this is appropriate for passengers, to reduce empty and unnecessary miles.
- Review routes regularly with commissioning partners as passenger needs and locations change.
Driving and vehicle care
- Apply a no-idling policy, particularly outside schools, colleges and care settings.
- Encourage smooth, fuel-efficient driving through driver guidance and training.
- Maintain vehicles to manufacturer schedules, including tyre pressures, to keep fuel use down.
- Use vehicles that meet the emission standards required to operate in London's Ultra Low Emission Zone.
Fleet transition
- Introduce low-emission and zero-emission vehicles as vehicles are replaced, where they are suitable for passengers' accessibility and journey needs and charging is practicable.
- Consider electricity from renewable sources for any vehicle charging and premises we control.
Office and supply chain
- Use digital journey records, communication and invoicing in place of paper where possible.
- Consider environmental performance when choosing suppliers.
5. Working with commissioners and communities
We will support the climate, air-quality and sustainability goals of the local authorities, schools and organisations we work with, and will share emissions information where a contract requires it.
6. Governance and review
A company director is accountable for this commitment. It is reviewed at least once a year and updated when our operations, fleet or reporting requirements change. Progress against our baseline will be published on this page.
7. Declaration
This Net Zero Commitment has been approved by the Board of Kingswell Transport Ltd and is published so that customers, commissioners and the public can see it.
